Dentures (Full and Partial)

DenturesDentures are a long-standing, time-tested tooth-replacement option for patients who are missing most or all of their teeth. Although dentures have a reputation for being uncomfortable, unnatural-looking, and difficult to wear, modern advancements in prosthetic dentistry have greatly improved dentures for patients, making them more comfortable, easier to wear, and much more natural in terms of the way they look and feel.

What Are Full and Partial Dentures?

A denture is a prosthetic dental device that is designed to replace a patient’s missing teeth. Full dentures replace all of a patient’s teeth, and partial dentures replace a portion of missing teeth.

The Benefits of Choosing Dentures For Your Tooth-Replacement

Traditional dentures are a simple, non-invasive way to replace your missing teeth. They can help you restore your smile in addition to its form and function. While dentures can take some getting used to, they can effectively restore your ability to eat and speak naturally while also preserving your appearance.

Types of Dentures Available at NCPD

When it comes to dentures, we offer a wide variety of options so that each of our patients receives the perfect treatment option to meet their unique needs. The types of dentures available at Northern Colorado Prosthetic Dentistry include:

  • Full Dentures – Full dentures are designed to replace all of the teeth on one or both dental arches.
  • Partial Dentures – Partial dentures are designed to replace some missing teeth on one or both dental arches.
  • Traditional Dentures – Traditional dentures are intended to be removed daily for cleaning and maintenance.
  • All-on-4 – All-on-4 dentures are designed to be permanently attached to four strategically placed dental implants, eliminating the need for using denture adhesive.
  • Implant-Supported Dentures – Also called snap-on dentures or overdentures, implant-supported dentures are fixed inside the mouth and attached to dental implants. While they can be removed for cleaning and maintenance, they also do not require the use of denture adhesive.

Thanks to modern advancements in dental tools and treatment technology, patients have access to several choices in tooth-replacement options and dentures. This means we can help you find the perfect option to fit your lifestyle, achieve your smile goals, and stay within your dental care budget.

What to Expect When Getting Dentures

The process of getting dentures varies depending on the type of dentures you have chosen for your tooth-replacement option. Regardless, the process begins with an examination and consultation with our prosthodontist. During this appointment, Dr. Bock talks with you about your treatment goals and expectations to help you determine the treatment option that’s right for you.

When receiving traditional dentures, the process begins with preparing your mouth for placement. If receiving full dentures, it might be necessary to first extract a patient’s few remaining teeth to ensure a comfortable fit. We then take digital scans of the patient’s mouth to design a custom dental appliance that will achieve a perfectly snug and comfortable fit.

When the patient’s dentures are ready, we schedule a fitting appointment during which we make any necessary final adjustments to your dentures. Additionally, we provide patients with instructions for getting used to wearing their dentures. Plus, we provide patients with instructions for caring for their dentures and gums daily.
As a patient’s bone and muscle structure can change gradually over time, it is natural for the way their dentures fit to change, too. If you notice your dentures have become less comfortable, difficult to wear, or are causing sores in your mouth, schedule a denture adjustment appointment right away.
